Applications are invited for the permanent position of Research IT
System Manager in the Centre for Astrophysics Research (CAR), within
the School of Physics, Astronomy and Mathematics at the University of
Hertfordshire. The System Manager is responsible for administration of
the desktops, laptops and servers (mostly running Linux or Windows)
used by staff and research students in CAR, for user support including
support for the high-performance computing facility at UH, and for
purchasing of hardware, software and consumables. Time permitting, the
System Manager is encouraged to engage in his/her own research in
physics or astrophysics. Further information on CAR is available at

Applicants should have a numerate first degree and relevant system
administration experience. A PhD or other experience in research-level
astronomy and familiarity with astronomical software packages is
desirable. The starting salary will be on the UH7 academic scale,
currently between GBP 32,548 and 38,833 per annum, incrementing
annually with the starting grade set according to experience. A job
