Dear Terry,

Most papers that are presented at conferences such at the DRS focus on
design practice and research in the United States and Western Europe. This
can create the impression for other researchers and young professionals
that there is little design research, design practice or design culture
outside of these places. When we developed the call, we were specifically
thinking of papers about design research outside of the US and Western
Europe as a counter-hegemonic position, to increase the diversity in
published research about design and to create a forum for practitioners and
researchers outside of the 'mainstream' world of design to discuss and
share their work. We were hoping that this would attract responses from
researchers and practitioners particularly from Eastern Europe, Asia,
Africa, the rest of the Americas, including the Caribbean.
We welcome papers about 'technical' design research and practice from
outside of the mainstream, and hope you will share the call within your
network.

Best regards

Lesley-Ann
