The First Minister has just announced her commitment for Scotland to phase out new petrol and diesel vehicles by 2032 - eight years ahead of the UK government's target. This would see a "massive" expansion in electric charging points, Ms Sturgeon said, with pilot projects set up to encourage uptake of electric vehicles and to make the A9 Scotland's first fully electric-enabled road. Low emissions zones will also be created in Scotland's four largest cities by 2020.
Currently there are over 1.2 Billion vehicles on this planet. That figure is expected to rise to 2 Billion by 2035. The runaway success of the automobile is due to its impressive performance - travels more than 300 miles without refuelling the fuel tank and can attain speeds of over 100 mph. Automobiles, however, are increasingly being scrutinised with reference to their environmental credentials: local kerb-side pollution as well as their contribution to climate change - a quarter of global carbon emissions emanate from their tail-pipes. This event will provide the latest information regarding the pros and cons of automobiles that will include discussions on the air quality and lectures related to the latest electric vehicle R&D.
Thank you.
Regards
Yvonne
