The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists is about to submit an application to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for an oral history project, aiming to record and convey the memories of those who experienced the reality of abortion before the introduction of the 1967 Abortion Act. The participants will be people who sought and went through unsafe procedures, as well as clinicians and frontline health workers who saw, first-hand, the effects of this.

 

HLF have requested that we demonstrate interest from other organisations to host elements of the project output in the form of a small standalone display featuring a battery operated AV unit with headphones. The display will be easy to transport and set up without taking up lots of room or damaging the fabric of any space in which it stands. There will also be a corresponding booklet for viewers to take away for free. The display is expected to be launched at the RCOG in Summer 2019, after which time it will go on a tour to host organisations, for around one month in each venue. We would fund the delivery of the display, and provide associated equipment.

 

We appreciate that circumstances, e.g. space availability, may change over time. At this stage, we are therefore only seeking your support in principle only. There is no expectation of definitive commitments.
