Hi Bill,
The Riverside (formerly Glasgow Transport Museum) recreated part of the hugely popular street scenes from the original venue at Kelvin Hall when they moved the transport collections to the new museum: http://www.glasgowlife.org.uk/museums/riverside/pages/default.aspx
Gladstone Court in Biggar also includes a street scene with recreated shops: http://www.nothingtoseehere.net/2009/04/gladstone_court_museum_biggar.html I think it originally dates from the 1970s but my parents were involved so will try to find out more!
Best,
Jenny

Hi
Streetlife Museum in Hull has a recreated indoor street in homage to an earlier 'street' situated behind Wilberforce House (Museum next door) which I think pre-dated York's street but was destroyed by fire during world war two. Hull Museums has information about the original street in their' Hull Museums Publications', including at least one photograph if I recall correctly. Streetlife includes a recreated Hull Co-operative Shop and a chemist with original interior (which I think originates from Leeds).
Hope this helps,
Clare

Dear SHCG,
I am doing some research –as a prelude to a piece of writing based on my PhD- into ‘street museums’. I have some knowledge/information on well-known sites like Kirkgate (York), Abbey Fold (Leeds), Lark Hill Place (Salford), but am interested in where there are/were other early examples. For instance, there was a street here at Oldham for a number of years and I believe there were some recreated shops built in Doncaster Museum in the 1960s, but could use more information. I am particularly interested in indoor recreations although, obviously, sites like Beamish, Black Country Museum Blists Hill etc. fit into the picture as do things like the Flambards and the Toad Lane co-operative shop. Any information, leads or contacts would be greatly appreciated.
