The University of Southern California Imaging Genetics Center (http://igc.ini.usc.edu) - part of the Mark and Mary Stevens Neuroimaging and Informatics Institute - in Marina del Rey, California - is looking for a talented full-time research assistant. Duties will focus on analyzing existing brain images to investigate Alzheimer’s disease risk.
The successful applicant will have a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, psychology, or a related field. He or she should be well-organized, careful and reliable, able to meet deadlines, and able to work both collaboratively and independently. Good knowledge of basic Excel is required. A demonstrated ability to learn computer programming (e.g., passing a previous computer programming class) is also desirable, and some knowledge of MATLAB, python, or bash scripting is preferred. Some experience with MRI analysis and a working knowledge of FSL and Freesurfer would be a plus.
Major duties include quality control and data analysis of functional and structural brain images, data management and organization, and some simple computer programming to streamline image analyses. The research assistant hired will become familiar with relevant brain anatomy and scientific papers, and will learn how to process structural and functional MRI data using major available and in-house neuroimaging analysis software. This position would be great for candidates who would like to gain training and experience for a few years before eventually applying to a PhD program.
