2 Postdoctoral positions in Social and Affective Neuroscience at the University of Maryland, College Park
Candidates are being considered for two postdoctoral research associate positions as part of a collaborative project between Dr. Luiz Pessoa’s Laboratory of Cognition and Emotion (http://lce.umd.edu/) and Dr. Elizabeth Redcay’s Developmental Social Cognitive Neuroscience lab (http://www.dscn.umd.edu) at the University of Maryland, College Park. The postdoc will play a lead role in conducting studies to examine the temporal evolution of brain network organization during dynamic, multimodal social and emotional processing. These studies include investigating effects of emotional (e.g., mood induction) and social (e.g., joint attention) context on network organization.
Requirements include a PhD in neuroscience or related area; candidates with degrees in engineering, CS, or related area will be considered too. Experience in cognitive neuroscience and neuroimaging and familiarity with neuroimaging analysis platforms is desirable. We are particularly looking for someone with strong computational programming skills, including experience with Matlab, Python, R, etc. Strengths in mathematical and statistical knowledge are strongly desired. The position offers excellent training in advanced aspects of neuroimaging data analysis, including machine learning/multivariate and graph-theoretic/network techniques.
The University of Maryland, College Park, offers excellent resources for neuroimaging and houses a 3T TIM Trio Siemens system. This is an excellent position for qualified candidates to gain further expertise in social and affective neuroscience while advancing methodological expertise in novel naturalistic and network approaches to fMRI data analyses. Further, the postdoc would be part of a supportive and collaborative environment that prioritizes professional development, including publications and grant-writing experience. Finally, UMD is an ideal location to connect with and learn from diverse researchers both within UMD (e.g., Neuroscience and Cognitive Science program, Maryland Neuroimaging Center) and in the broader DC metro area (e.g., NIH, UMD-Baltimore, Johns Hopkins, George Washington, Georgetown). UMD is located in College Park, MD, just 5 miles from the vibrant and exciting city of Washington DC.
The university is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. Minorities and women are strongly encouraged to apply. Anticipated start date: Summer, 2017. Please email a CV and letter of intent to Elizabeth Redcay ([log in to unmask]) and arrange for 2-3 letters of recommendation to be sent directly to Dr. Redcay as well. Applications will be reviewed by Drs. Redcay and Pessoa.
