We would undertake a combination of searches, full name, just surname, first name and often initials to assist us in locating the information.
We are aware our social workers often refer only to initials rather than full names in emails, so we would alter our searches depending on the practice of each delivery unit. I agree that sometimes this could also be key family members, addresses and whatever else could link to that person. It's whatever seems reasonable to ensure we capture as much / all relevant data.
