Role Purpose:
We wish to appoint two excellent researchers and teachers to posts as Lecturer/Associate Professor in Human Geography within the School of Geography, Geology and the Environment. You will be involved in teaching across the undergraduate programmes in Geography and contribute to Masters teaching. You will deliver high-quality teaching, including practical classes and fieldwork at all levels and be able to demonstrate the ability to develop innovative teaching methods. You will contribute to leading and developing the research portfolio and play an active part in the development of our teaching programmes. You will have potential for, or build on, a strong research and publication profile both nationally and internationally and lead on grant capture, engagement in international networks and enhancing impact activity. You will work in collaboration with other researchers in our dynamic Critical and Creative Geographies research group, and importantly across interdisciplinary boundaries in the School where appropriate, in line with the School’s strategy.
The School is looking to further develop our portfolio of successful Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) and Newton Fund projects, as well as seeking to expand its capacities in relation to AHRC and ESRC and other UK Research Council funding opportunities. We are also looking to strengthen University developments including, for example, the Leicester Urban Observatory and the Leicester Institute of Advanced Studies in order to develop our research portfolio.
We are interested in applicants with expertise in research and teaching in the geographies of urban environments with research connected particularly to the 'Planetary urban and rural transformations' and/or 'Environment and social justice' themes. We seek to expand our interests in the Global South and/or Global North and gain funding linked to urban and environmental transformations. Teaching will include urban and social geography, environmental geographies, and development/post-colonial geographies. Masters level teaching will include modules within ESRC Midlands Graduate School Doctoral Training Partnership and supervision of postgraduate students is expected.
We are seeking to foster the development of geohumanities research and teaching at the University of Leicester with research connected particularly to our theme on 'Everyday geopolitical lives', and potentially to the other themes of the group ('Planetary urban and rural transformations' and 'Environment and Social Justice'). We wish to develop and extend our teaching of cultural and social geographies in the direction of critical and creative geographies and the geohumanities. Masters level teaching will include modules in ESRC Midlands Graduate School Doctoral Training Partnership. Supervision of postgraduate students who apply to do research as part of AHRC Midlands3Cities Doctoral Training Partnership is expected.
Informal enquiries are welcome and should be made to the Head of School, Professor Sarah Davies, on [log in to unmask] or 0116 252 3921.
The closing date for this post is midnight on 13 August 2017.
We anticipate that interviews will take place on 21 & 22 September 2017.
