Post-doc in Traumatic Brain Injury and multi-modal imaging at the
University of Cambridge
http://www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/13196/
The post holder will work with other members of the Division of
Anaesthesia, University of Cambridge to support the optimisation,
standardisation and development of multi-modal MRI and X-ray CT data
analysis pipelines for both healthy subjects and Traumatic Brain Injury
patients. Some of the challenges involved include automatic detection of
brain lesions, improved segmentation of anatomical structures, and
functional and effective connectivity analysis. These analysis pipelines
will be developed within the scope of CENTER-TBI, a large collaborative
European project involving 60 centres from 20 countries
(www.center-tbi.eu), and includes over 5000 patients with traumatic
brain injury. This longitudinal study will include multiple neuroimaging
sessions at different time-points, comprising CT images and a number of
different MRI datasets including T1- and T2-weighted structural MRI,
diffusion MRI, and resting state functional MRI, amongst others. These
pipelines will be used in subsequent research studies and grant
applications. If successful, these may represent opportunities for
extension of this research initiative beyond the defined period of this
post.
The post-holder will be line-managed by Prof David Menon, but also work
closely with other MRI researchers at the Division of Anaesthetics (e.g.
Dr Virginia Newcombe, Dr Emmanuel A Stamatakis, Dr Jonathan Coles).
He/she will also collaborate with members of the larger Cambridge
Neuroimaging community, including Dr Guy Williams (Wolfson Brain Imaging
Centre - WBIC) and Dr Marta Correia (MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences
Unit - CBU), and interact with collaborators in the Computer Vision
Group at Imperial College, London, led by Prof Daniel Rueckert and Dr
Ben Glocker.
The post offers scope for independent research and methods development
in neuroimaging data analysis. We would be very willing to discuss the
research aspirations of individual applicants, and find ways in which
they could be provided time to pursue these, providing that they are in
the same broad area of research.
