You seem to be on the right lines.
I lost the plot here earlier! Had totally forgotten that it was well before Eddy's 1956 visit that pumping was only to 192 yards.
Jonathan Harrison had completed New Engine Shaft to 342 yards deep, pumping and winding, in 1848. Eight years before they called in Stephen Eddy.
