Subject: Query on volunteer run museums
Hello All
Your advice would be welcome please.
A local government council with a valuable collection have recently bought property in the centre of a historic town and wish the ground floor to be a town museum.
They are considering starting a Friends’ group that is a charity, to run the museum, but are not sure whether this is a suitable plan. A possibility could be a separate charity (ie a second) leasing the ground floor space from the Town Council and then sub leasing the space to the friends of the museum. In other words an organisational model that had three parts – Local Government, property charity, plus friends charity running the museum on a voluntary basis.
So, does anyone have any ideas which could help their deliberations? Are there other museums with these challenges & how have the met them? Are there organisational models that have been tried & tested?
Thanks in anticipation.
Cheers
