We are seeking an Archive Service Officer to join the Kent Archives and Local History Services Team to assist in delivering, developing and promoting our services. Applicants must hold a recognised qualification in Archives Administration or meaningful relevant experience. The experience must include cataloguing archive collections to international standards using archival cataloguing software. They must be an excellent communicator both verbally and in writing, with good IT, interpersonal and presentation skills. The abilities to multi-task, prioritise workload and meet strict deadlines are vital.
The role includes assisting our customers by answering their enquiries, both remote and in person; undertaking chargeable research; assisting with delivering of the outreach programme and collections work including appraisal, accessioning and cataloguing. The role also includes liaising with partners and depositors and managing volunteers.
The post is based at the Kent History and Library Centre, which houses the County Council’s archive together with many other official and unofficial collections, including manuscript and printed material, maps, photographs and drawings, relating to 900 years of Kent’s history. Applicants will have a good knowledge of English local history, a desire to learn and share our commitment to making our collections accessible to all communities in Kent and beyond.
