urbz (http://www.urbz.net/) and Yangji with the support of the Korean
Government invite professionals and researchers across various
disciplines (design, architecture, social science, engineering, media,
business, environment) to collectively think about the future of
Ulleung-do. Ulleung-do is a small island in the East Sea, between Japan
and Korea. Its remoteness has helped the island preserve its striking
natural beauty and stay away from large scale urban development.
However, recent infrastructure projects on the island show that
Ulleung-do could possibly undergo rapid to become much like the rest of
the country, risking the loss of its rich natural and cultural heritage.
The Shinbisum workshop aims to bring together the local community of
Ulleung-do and international students, experts and researchers to ideate
and propose alternate development strategies for Ulleung-do. At the end,
there will be a publication with all the recommendations with the
possibility of some ideas being implemented. The workshop, in
collaboration with the Korean Government, will run from the 15th-20th
August 2017. Please apply here
