1st INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON URBANISM: SUSTAINABLE METROPOLIZATION,
CHALLENGES FOR THE 21st CENTURY
Oaxaca de Juárez, Oaxaca, Mexico. 8 - 10 November 2017
CALL FOR PAPERS
Urban life continues to offer competitive economic advantages compared
to rural settlements, despite the problems that constantly arise, so
that migration to cities keeps growing (Garrocho, 2011). In fact, the
metropolitan phenomenon has intensified and expanded in recent years and
the Montreal Declaration (UN, 2015) states that the main challenges for
the coming years are socio-economic inequality, environmental and health
degradation, mobility problems, provision of services and poor housing.
More challenges need to be considered, such as the inclusion of
different social groups, gender perspective, accessibility for people
with reduced mobility, the privatization of public space and citizen
participation. This conference seeks to become a forum for reflection on
these and other challenges faced by metropolitan areas.
Thematic panels are the following:
1. Metropolization.
2. Mobility, accessibility and inclusion.
3. Sustainability and the Environment.
4. Other issues.
