Sounds like a good idea. I have at least one potential 'retired curator' contact who covers two subject areas - what's the best way to forward you the details off the main list please?
Thanks

Good morning
At the recent firstBASE meeting, we identified that it would be great to be able to record individual curators/specialists who are the 'go to' experts for specific collection areas. Rather like firstBASE pointing you towards the best book, collection or website on a particular topic, there are clearly people that we know who would be our first port of call to find out more about a particular collection area. We are well aware that many of these people may be retired, freelance or recently made redundant, and so felt that now would be a good time to investigate how we might capture this information. We also recognised that although some specialist curators still work with specialist collections, this is becoming less common. Our conclusion at the meeting was that we could try to get recommendations so that we can contact potential specialists to see if they would be happy for their details to be recorded on firstBASE alongside an outline of their area of expertise. Although not intended to be a promotional tool, an entry on firstBASE could clearly act as a first step towards advertising and/or employing a freelance expert as well as simply a way to connect up with a knowledgeable volunteer.
What do you think? Any comments on whether this would be a useful addition to firstBASE gratefully received, as well as suggestions of individuals whom we might contact and other means of getting in touch with specialists. We also mean to make use of the new SSN email list to help in this idea as well as the @museumfreelance Twitter network.
Many thanks for your input!
