I see no answers, perhaps it is the weekend, but my memory suggests that you will have a hard time finding published papers.
Failing that, it might help to look for evaluations of previous activities, if the "victims" and funders are prepared to divulge what they found.
If nothing comes along, it would certainly be worth trying to persuade someone to do the research.
As you say, there has been a surge of training over the past 5-8 years, it should must have added to the repertoire.
Maybe they have picked over the entrails in the USA, although lessons from there, where you are more likely to encounter creationists and climate-change deniers, may not transfer.

Subject: [PSCI-COM] research on training scientists for public engagement / science communication?
Hi everyone,
Does anyone know of any good peer reviewed articles on what does / doesn't work / methods / when training scientists for public engagement? I've noticed a few but these are from a while ago and with the surge of training over the past 5-8 years I was surprised not to see much out there.
Thanks!
Best wishes,
Cathy
