A postdoctoral research assistant post is available for a fixed-term duration of 3 years starting in September 2017, funded by the Leverhulme Trust. The PDRA will be hosted by the Department of Chemistry and Leicester Institute of Structural & Chemical Biology at the University of Leicester.
The project is entitled "Development of a sensor to quantify cellular concentrations of heme".
We wish to appoint an excellent researcher to work on a Leverhulme Trust funded project to design approaches for measuring heme concentrations in cells. The project will involve development of targeted recombinant proteins to quantify (using imaging) the distribution of labile heme in cells. The project will use a combination of protein expression and engineering, and biophysics / imaging techniques. The post is a collaboration between the research groups of Dr Andrew Hudson and Prof Emma Raven (Department of Chemistry and Institute of Structural and Chemical Biology, University of Leicester).
We wish to appoint a highly ambitious candidate with doctoral and/or postdoctoral experience in recombinant protein expression and purification; preferably, also with experience in genetically-encoded fluorescent proteins. Experience in live cell imaging, photophysical characterisation of fluorescent proteins, molecular biology, and protein structure/mechanism is also highly desirable.
The candidate will work with both groups in the Henry Wellcome Building which is the home of a brand new investment at university level into The Leicester Institute for Structural and Chemical Biology (LISCB). LISCB is a cross-disciplinary entity that brings together internationally renowned research in structural biology and chemical biology at the University of Leicester into a single world-leading unit. The new Institute aims to exploit synergies in research technologies to deliver major advances in both fundamental and translational research. http://www2.le.ac.uk/institutes/liscb
Applicants should possess, or be very close to obtaining, a doctorate in Chemistry or Biochemistry, or other related field, and have previous experience at doctoral or postdoctoral level with one or more of the methods described above, and will be expected to design and execute experiments, and to take a leading role in presentation and publication of the results.
For further details please contact Dr Andrew Hudson ([log in to unmask]) or Prof Emma Raven ([log in to unmask]).
Salary range is £32,958 to £38,183 per annum.
