About the workshop
To maintain and develop services, library and information professionals increasingly need to know how to demonstrate their value and impact to stakeholders. It is important to have an understanding of who the stakeholders are, what they consider important and what evidence they need to be convinced. Evidence of impact and value are important factors in strategic planning, advocacy and articulating value to stakeholders. Evaluation provides a tool for improving services and programmes, and informs policy decisions.
This interactive workshop offers a practical evidence based guide to enable you to undertake evaluation and demonstrate value to your stakeholders. Research evidence from a wide range of library sectors will be used to demonstrate the difference between effectiveness, outcomes and impact and show participants what kind of outcomes can be captured to demonstrate value and impact.
Use will be made of simple tools such as logic models and an outcomes grid to enable participants to consider who their stakeholders are and how to demonstrate value to each of them.
The approach will be applicable to all library and information sectors, and covers key elements of the PKSB:
9.2) strategic thinking
9.4) demonstrating value
9.6) influencing key stakeholders
11.2) communicating with stakeholders
11.6) quality management
4.1) understanding research
The workshop will be facilitated by Professor Alison Brettle and Dr Carolynn Rankin from the Library and Information Research Group (LIRG) who both have extensive experience of research and practice in collecting and using evidence to demonstrate impact and value across the health, academic, school and public library sectors.
By the end of the workshop attendees will:
* An understanding of the right questions to ask
* An understanding of which stakeholders you need to convince or influence
* An understanding of the type of evidence which will be useful to different stakeholders and why.
