Dear colleagues,
DANS is exploring an approach to assess the FAIRness of datasets in Trustworthy Digital Repositories. The approach is inspired by the strong resemblance of the FAIR principles (for data) and the Data Seal of Approval principles (for data repositories). We believe that at least F, A and I can be operationalised in a scoring system, with (currently) five levels. A dataset’s FAIR badge, showing a number of stars, would then be a proxy for the dataset’s quality.
Peter Doorn and Ingrid Dillo presented the proposal at the iDCC (http://www.dcc.ac.uk/sites/default/files/documents/IDCC17~/Dillo%2C%20Doorn%20-%20Assessing%20FAIRness%2C%20IDCC17%2C%2022-02-2017.pdf) and in a joint EUDAT-OpenAIRE webinar (https://eudat.eu/events/webinar/fair-data-in-trustworthy-data-repositories-webinar).
A survey to test the pilot assessment tool will be available shortly. Please let me know when you have questions in the meantime.
Kind regards,
Marjan Grootveld
