Post-Truth Politics and the New World Order: what does this mean for South Asia and its media?
With Brexit, Trump, aggressive nationalisms and rampant social media, what are the challenges and opportunities for South Asia in the new world order? How might South Asia and its media be reshaped in the era of ‘post-truth politics’?
There will be panels on jingoism in the media and the threat from hypernationalism; on climate change; on diplomacy; and on hard borders, protectionism and immigration.
Confirmed speakers include, among others: David Goodhart (author of The Road to Somewhere); Owen Bennett-Jones (journalist, formerly BBC); Gordon Fairclough (The Wall Street Journal); Sunder Katwala (British Future); Rahul Roy-Chaudhuri (International Institute for Strategic Studies); Beth Walker (China Dialogue); Edward King (Climate Home); Vinita Damodaran (University of Sussex), as well as senior South Asian journalists from the Chevening South Asia Journalism Programme 2017.
Admission is free but space is limited and booking is essential. Further details of programme on Eventbrite.
