Online user privacy is an important issue for every library and information service, yet it is one that can receive relatively little attention. In the US “Choose Privacy” week has been running for a number of years to raise the profile of this issue and provide tools which library and information services can use.
The website for the week is https://chooseprivacyweek.org/ and inevitably has an American bias but it contains lots of useful resources all library and information services can use. It also has a very good blog by William Marden, Director of Privacy and Compliance at New York Public Library outlining how they developed their Privacy Policy, an important document every service needs in today’s challenging digital environment.
It would be interesting to hear from any service in any sector which has a privacy policy. I am happy to summarise the responses I receive and share this with the list.
