Icon Dynamic Objects Network: Organic Materials in Dynamic Objects

Sedgwick Museum, Cambridge (Entrance in Downing Street) Thursday 25th May 2017 Doors open 16.00 for 16.30 start

Announced speakers:

•	Edward Cheese (Conservator of Manuscripts and Printed Books at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge) will discuss approaches to the conservation of books as 3D mechanical objects. Drawing on his practical experience of binding and his research interests in the history of the craft, he will discuss the implications of common conservation standards on the repair of working items.

•	Matthew King (cabinet maker and clock case conservator-restorer) will be talking about making a replica of the John Harrison 1713 wooden clock. His interest is in understanding how these clocks were made and what knowledge, skills and tools were required. Following this there will be opportunity for attendees to share and discuss perspectives around the future care and function of the 1717 Nostell Priory example.

There will also be a short debate afterwards to discuss future care of dynamic objects with particular emphasis on rare books and ongoing care of the Nostell Priory clock.

Talks finish at 1830 after which refreshments, further debate and networking will be available in an adjacent gallery until doors close at 1930.

At 1930 there will be an excursion to see the Corpus Christi clock..

Tickets are only available through Eventbrite.
