Hi Phil,
There's a DoE Industry Profile for "Chemical Works: fertiliser manufacturing works" which should point you in the right direction.

We had a large 'muckworks' to the south of King's Lynn which produced fertilizer. The site not only processed manure but also used raw materials such as sulphur, potash and phosphates. One waste product was phosphogypsum which has resulted in residual radioactivity in waste lagoons. You would need to check what your site in particular was producing, but we have lots of information on the types of contamination found on our site.

Subject: Chemical Manure Works
Hi All
I am preparing a desk study for a rural site in Suffolk. Land immediately adjacent to the site is annotated to be a chemical manure works from before 1851 to 1951. Does anyone know what type of activities would have occurred so I can determine the typical contaminants.
Regards
Phil Miles
