The Ongoing Brain Oscillations and Behavior Lab (OBOB; www.oboblab.at) at the Centre
of Cognitive Neuroscience Salzburg (CCNS) is offering a PhD position (full-time; 36 months starting Sept. 2017)
The position will be part of the European School on Inter-disciplinary tinnitus Research (ESIT, www.esit.tinnitusresearch.org) – a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action funded by the European Commission.
Clinical outcomes of neurostimulation in tinnitus is hampered by massive interindividual variability. The successful candidate will devise transcranial electrical stimulation (tES) protocols that modulate auditory cortical brain activity in individuals with normal hearing and tinnitus. The impact of the tES will be assessed using behavioral and online neurophysiological recordings (MEG). The long-term aim in which this project is embedded is to devise strategies to determine tES parameters that modulate auditory cortical activity reliably on an individual level.
The work will be carried out at the CCNS (https://ccns.sbg.ac.at), allowing access to state-of-the-art infrastructure relevant to cognitive neuroscience research, such as MEG and a 3T MRI system. Clinical and industrial collaborators at the local and international level will allow the successful candidate to enjoy a broad experience to the topic. Furthermore, s/he will actively take part in training activities of the ESIT.
The successful candidate should hold a Master Degree (or equivalent) e.g. in psychology, biology, engineering, medical sciences or any other field related to the project. S/he is highly intrinsically motivated and driven by profound neuroscientific curiosity. Excellent English skills in oral and written form are required. Basic Matlab or other programming skills are desirable.
At the time of recruitment, the applicant must not have worked or studied more than 12 months during the previous 36 months in Austria.
The post is remunerated based on the Austrian University collective bargaining agreement (gross annual salary ~€2.731 x 14). Female candidates are in particular encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to disabled applicants with equal qualifications.
Applicants should send a PDF including a cover letter, CV and names/contact information of 2 references to:
