To any PhD students or postdocs looking for a new postdoc position.
Applications are invited for a 2-year Post Doctoral Research Associate
(from 1st May 2017 – 30th April 2019) to join a vibrant research group
investigating the molecular genetic basis of resistance in rice to the
parasitic weed Striga.
You will work with Prof Julie Scholes (University
of Sheffield) and Dr Mathias Lorieux (CIAT, Colombia and IRD, France) to
determine the function and specificity of a previously identified
cluster of candidate resistance genes in rice by inactivating specific
genes using CRISPR Cas9 gene editing technology. You will also lead the
discovery of novel Striga resistance genes with different modes of
action by phenotyping a unique rice Nested Association Mapping (NAM)
population (developed at CIAT) for resistance against different genetic
ecotypes of Striga.
The project requires a mix of skills including plant biology, genomics,
genetics (genetic mapping, and QTL analysis), molecular techniques (gene
cloning, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, qPCR), and phenotyping skills with
help from collaborators. You should hold a PhD (or equivalent
experience) in molecular biology / genetics and have experience of
research in this field. The PDRA will be based at Sheffield University
but spend periods of time working at CIAT in Colombia with Dr Mathias
Lorieux.
Further details of the project (Job ref: UOS015841) and application
procedure can be found at jobs.ac.uk [1]
(http://www.jobs.ac.uk/job/AYI421/research-associate/ [2]) and in the
pdf attachment.
