An exciting opportunity has arisen for a web programmer to join our established Data Management Team. The MRC Epidemiology Unit is a department within the School of Clinical Medicine at the University of Cambridge that studies the genetic, developmental and environmental factors causing obesity, diabetes and related metabolic disorders. The role will be based at Institute of Metabolic Science on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
You will be responsible for supporting ongoing programming and web projects and subject to level of experience, contributing to the development of a Consortium Management Tool that will fulfil a key strategic role supporting studies such as http://www.interconnect-diabetes.eu/ and http://www.mrc-epid.cam.ac.uk/research/studies/interact/. The tool will require the development of a series of RESTful application components using Python working across different devices. The role will also be responsible for the development of a series of components which include event triggered workflows. The development of the tool will utilise the Unit's existing web application development framework and this will also support future epidemiological research studies.
You will have excellent communication skills, be happy working as a member of a small development team, or on your own, and have confidence when communicating with technical and non-technical staff, in particular when establishing functional requirements. You will be very well organised, able to multi-task, and work flexibly within a team environment. Although experience of working in a research setting would be advantageous, the successful candidate will have experience of web application development and experience in Python programming potentially through using frameworks such as Django and/or Bootstrap tools.
