Two new PhD fully-funded studentships at the University of Liverpool
Applications for 2017/2018 are now open. Closing date 31 March 2017.
Prospective students will be interested in topics from biostatistics which involve quantitative (mathematical, statistical or computational) approaches to resolve questions in medicine, health or genetics. The goal of these studentships is to train the students to contribute to and lead research in development of statistical methods in order to solve questions arising in medicine, health or genetics. The students will have a supervisor and mentor in biostatistics while also having co-supervisors from collaborating areas (medicine, genetics or health).
The description of the two studentships and the list of the projects to which students may apply can be found at https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/translational-medicine/departmentsandgroups/biostatistics/phd-studentships/
The PhD programme will involve numerous opportunities to develop quantitative and methodological skills with guidance from leaders in the biostatistics sciences. Successful candidate will be provided with state-of-the-art resources for computing, and support for research, training courses and conferences, as well as tuition fees (at Home/EU rate) and a monthly stipend for 3 years.
Applicants may come from any background, but they should have well-developed interests in quantitative problem-solving. All projects require some knowledge of computer programming (the required level depends on the project), mathematical or statistical training. Applicants are encouraged to contact the project leaders for further information about the project and to discuss essential requirements.
Overseas students should be proficient in English.
* The closing date for submission of statements of interest is 31 March 2017. Applicants should send a CV, academic transcripts, a letter of motivation indicating why the student’s interests and qualifications are a good fit for the studentships, and two names of referees who can send letters of recommendation to Nyree Collinson <[log in to unmask]>. Evidence of quantitative skills, such as quantitative GRE scores or evidence of having taken quantitative courses, is also welcome.
