Description:
The main aim of the Summer School is to improve the knowledge of the participants in the broad field of urban studies. The Summer School provides an opportunity to investigate leading-edge theoretical and methodological questions, along with the topic of urban attractiveness and the related policy, in the field of sociology, economics, human geography. It consists of several short and intensive two-weeks of teaching modules and courses about the the evolution of the attractiveness of urban space, taking into account peculiar case studies based in Milan and Barcelona. The programme aim at analysing the impact of particular socio-spatial interventions within the urban fabric, for instance public events or specific small-scale projects, as well as conflicts that take place amongst different types of urban population. This approach has potential interests for local authorities, researchers, as well as service providers.
The summer school will be divided in three sets of lessons and activities devoted to:
- the analysis of the theoretical and methodological instruments available in order to studying and improving urban attractiveness;
- the presentation of successful case studies of city marketing and strategies performed in Italian and European cities;
- the tour in specific places and “hot-spots” within the two cities in order to corroborate the theoretical part with the empirical field (lessons in the morning and trips in the afternoon).
The final goal of the summer school is to improve the capacity of the students in cooperating with private and public agencies for promoting or preventing specific forms of attractiveness within and in relation to cities. The summer school is open to students as well as to policy makers working in the field of the city marketing.
The students might collaborate with UrbEur PhD candidates. The PhD programme in Urban Studies of University of Milano-Bicocca.
