No doubt this has been covered before, so apologies if it's a repeat, and maybe you could point me to a thread.
I'm interested in the *process* of working with a research group to move into a Public Engagement
- for that group to work out how they would like to engage in a way that
fits with their own personal as well as work interests
- in a way that really gets them to start look differently at their
research, and even change how it is done
I'm assuming that this would be a research group that is open to this, and either doesn't really engage at the moment, or does so in rather traditional ways.
Does anyone here have experience of this? Are there case histories or papers where this has been documented?

Further to the email thread a couple of months back about the Science Capital thing, I've been doing some reading...
I thought I could perform a public service by flagging up a couple of things that I have picked up, that I haven't seen on here before (although I may have missed them, in which case, apologies). The papers are both behind paywalls, I'm afraid: I don't know what we do about that.
On a practical point of view, this 2014 ASPIRES paper reports no significant change in students' attitudes to science in school between Year 6 and Year 9. This goes against what I previously understood to be the case. http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/09500693.2013.871659
Secondly, and more theoretically, this 2016 paper by Michael Reiss and Tuba Gokpinar is a really interesting way of taking some of the "cultural capital" ideas that underlie Science Capital, and tying them to some work from economics* that allows them to think about how stuff actually impacts real people's real lives. There's some pretty hardcore social theory in there, and so whilst I am tempted to try to summarise the ideas for those who can't access the paper, I fear it would take me longer than it will take you to read the paper. http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/09500693.2016.1188332
