Call for Papers: Art & Sound Symposium, 23-24 June 2017
Theme: ‘Craft’
Venue: De Montfort University, Leicester
Craft: Skill, expertise, mastery, talent, knack, flair, ability, artistry, art, handicraft, handiwork, workmanship, technique
Following a highly successful pilot, Art & Sound is happy to announce its return on Friday 23rd June & Saturday 24th of June 2017. We welcome contribution by academics and practitioners from across the arts, centring around notions of ‘craft’. A focus is placed upon examples of craft within music, sound and performance; however, it is an aim of the symposium to bring together a range of art forms to explore cross-/inter-disciplinary possibilities.
The areas of contribution indicated here are neither exhaustive, nor prescriptive. But we challenge those submitting to find creative alternatives to the traditional talk-focused symposium session. Innovative — and achievable — ideas for the sharing of research and artworks will be considered if outlined clearly and concisely.
The following areas for contribution are sought:
Creative presentations on recent practice and research; including, but not limited to, delivered talks, posters, and PechaKucha-style presentations;
We welcome all art from all artistic disciplines
Site-specific work;
Workshops;
Galleries and installations;
Sound-art and electroacoustic music
Works in progress within the areas above can be considered
A number of workshops will also take place over the two days where delegate participation is encouraged. These workshops will lead to creative events scheduled for the Saturday evening that participants will be able to perform in. More information will be released in due course.
