Applications are invited for a postdoctoral researcher in the Advanced Materials Group (AMG) at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague, to work on nanoscale tribology of low friction materials, under the supervision of Prof. Tomas Polcar. AMG is a well-established group and consists of dynamic and motivated researchers leading international collaborations on broad interdisciplinary topics. Research includes deposition of solid lubricants based on transition metal dichalcogenides by magnetron sputtering, their characterisation by surface sensitive techniques, such as Raman spectroscopy, and investigating their frictional and wear properties by multiscale tribological testing from nanoscale (using Atomic Force Microscopy) to macroscale (pin-on-disc). Furthermore, research will include low-dimensional materials (single and multilayered mono- and hetero-structures) prepared elsewhere.
Job requirements
Successful candidates must have a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or a closely related discipline. A strong background in material and surface characterization is mandatory. Experience with magnetron sputtering and/or AFM and related techniques is a great advantage. The applicant will work closely with theoreticians in the group who explore frictional properties by ab initio and molecular dynamics methods; therefore, he/she is expected to work well in a collaborative environment. Good knowledge of English, both written and oral, is compulsory.
Contract details
The position will be available for up to two years, upon successful completion of a probationary first year. The salary will be very competitive at 1700-1900 EUR gross per month depending on candidate experience. Applications are accepted now through spring 2017 or until filled, whichever is earlier.
How to apply
The call is open immediately with an expected starting date till July 2017. Your application must include: cover letter, CV, list of publications, at least 2 references and proof of completed PhD. Please direct all correspondence to [log in to unmask]
