MAPLE at West Yorkshire Archives in Wakefield

This is a chance to view the new £6.4million West Yorkshire Archive Building in Kirkgate, Mansfield as part of the MAPLE meeting on the 2 March 2017. The new 'West Yorkshire History Centre' stores over 10 million records, housing county collections as well as those from the Wakefield district in state of the art secure strong rooms. Incorporated inside the archives are a large public searchroom, a new conservation suite, a learning zone, dedicated space for exhibitions and a local history centre which is also incorporated into the ground floor. The iconic building design features a perforated metal mesh wrap, which will be back-lit in the evening to provide a dramatic changing façade.
The Major Archive Projects Learning Exchange<http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/archives-sector/maple.htm> (MAPLE) was set up in autumn 2007 to support organisations planning or managing large archive projects; primarily capital developments. This networking group, facilitated by The National Archives, provides a forum for organisations to share their experiences, knowledge and plans via an email list and through sharing documentation.
