International Women’s Day 2017
Four Women, Five Stories:
Film Screening and Q&A with Kajal Nisha Patel and Dr. Melanie Kennedy
Tuesday 7 March 2017, 6.15-7.15pm
As part of International Women’s Day, Leverhulme Artist in Residence (2016)
Kajal Nisha Patel will be in conversation with Dr Melanie Kennedy from the
School of Media, Communication and Sociology.
Kajal is a visual artist, working between the UK and India. Having
previously specialised in storytelling through documentary photography and
filmmaking, she now works as a multidisciplinary artist, practising
primarily with recycled Indian fabrics and other vernacular objects.
Interests in human rights and social justice have led her to document the
marginalised experiences and multiple identities of British South Asian
women. She is consequently developing her research on British South Asian
women’s working and domestic lives.
During this event, Kajal will talk about her commissioned series of films
Four Women, Five Stories, which led to further commissioned projects
relating to protest and activism. She will discuss how art, craft, digital
activism and storytelling can be used to foster critical discussion and
social change.
This event will be followed by refreshments in the Ken Edwards foyer.
*This is a free event and no booking is required. All are welcome.*
