Really interesting discussion because we are in the final stages of setting up a ticketing system.
We're a local authority museum so have had to ensure anything using the authority network meets the necessary security standards. Since the tills and CRM all are on the council network this has added challenges.
We wanted an all in one tills, online and in museum tickets, room and resource bookings (internal and external) and a robust CRM system. We have settled on one system for tills, tickets and bookings that links (much as Mike suggested) to a CRM system.
Keeping it to two systems feels quite a triumph compared to our previous multiple system approach that had evolved over the years.
To get best value from the CRM system we also use it for volunteer management.
