REMINDER: The Forum Prize 2017 – The Transnational – Call for Articles
Forum for Modern Language Studies invites submissions on the subject of The Transnational for the Forum Prize 2017 competition. The closing date for entries is Friday 28 April 2017.
Recent research in Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures has increasingly turned towards exploring the opportunities afforded by transnational perspectives. Looking beyond the borders of national specificity within which many of our pedagogical and administrative structures remain rooted, transnational frameworks encourage us to rethink static cultural categories, and to remind ourselves of the irrepressible mobility of texts, ideas, peoples, identities, languages and artistic practices. In a world increasingly defined by transnational and translingual realities, greater awareness of the complex interactions between cultures is stimulating innovative new research across a broad range of historical, geographical and generic contexts.
The editors of Forum for Modern Language Studies invite submissions dealing with any topic pertaining to the theme of The Transnational, understood in its broadest sense. Topics may include, but are not confined to:
• transnational (re)readings of literary texts
• narratives of mobility, migration and displacement
• rethinking localism, regionalism and nationalism within broader contexts
• globalisation and cultural hegemony
• transnational citizenship
• comparative post-colonial contexts
• translation, reception, adaptation
• social / new media: networks, communication, modes of production
• transnational approaches to memory studies
• spatial histories
• intermediality
• transnational dimensions of form and genre
• pedagogical strategies and responses
• interdisciplinary approaches to the transnational
• non-linguistic expressions of the transnational, eg. music, painting, sculpture and dance
• transnational performance and contemporary artistic practice
• communities, hierarchies and social justice
• translingualism and multilingualism
• the limits of the transnational
Submissions may address relevant aspects of language, literature and culture in any one or more of the subject areas covered by the journal: Arabic, Comparative Literature, English, French, German, Italian, Linguistics, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian, and Translation Studies.
