Invitation to Contribute to:

The Annual Brighton Trans and Non-Binary Conference 2017

20th July 2017, 9am-5pm.

(N.B. you can register to attend the conference without contributing
to the formal programme).

The Annual Brighton trans and non-binary conference invites trans and
non-binary people; researchers; people from the public, community and
voluntary sector, and those who want to know more about trans lives
and trans issues to the 2017 conference.

Alongside Brighton Trans Pride (21st-23rd July 2017), this year’s
Annual Brighton Trans Conference seeks to bring trans and non-binary
people, researchers and allies (as well as those who seek to work
better with trans and non-binary people) together in order to work
towards making a more trans and non-binary inclusive society.

Confirmed keynote speakers: Jack Monroe, Meg-John Barker, EJ Scott, Juno Roche

The conference steering group and organisers would like to invite you
to co-create this conference, by presenting research and learning,
offering a workshop or a creative output on issues that affect trans
and non-binary people and trans and non-binary communities.

We invite trans and non-binary people to create workshops, present
talks or to engage in other ways around areas of interest/concern. We
would like to encourage those less visible in trans and non-binary
communities, including people of colour, disabled people, deaf people,
to contribute if they can. Volunteers from Brighton & Hove LGBT
Switchboard can provide some support for those who want to present
their ideas, and you can also ask for topics to be covered that you
would like to hear about. We will do our best to accommodate any
request that we can.

We invite researchers doing work on trans and non-binary issues to
present their research to trans people, service providers and policy
makers.

We invite frontline workers, heads of services, community and
voluntary sector workers and policy makers to share their activities
around trans and non-binary inclusion and to seek critically
constructive feedback on their actions.

We understand that these groups are not mutually exclusive and no one
is asked to identify in these categories.

To contribute to the conference, you will need to submit an outline of
what you would like to do (no more than 250 words, but it can be less
than this). This will need to be written and submitted on this
https://set.formstack.com/forms/conferenceabstracts by the 24th March
2017.

Not all submissions will be accepted, because of the limited time
during the day.

You will hear if your submission will be part of the conference by the
1st May 2017. A programme will be released in May, please plan to
attend the entire day (9-5) as timings will not be changeable.

As a presenter, you can expect to have a timeslot of approximately
15-20 minutes (although we may ask you to participate in a different
way if there are too many presenters) and a room allocated. People can
choose to attend your session on the basis of what you submit and your
title.

Support

There will be a quiet room available at the conference and support
will be provided by volunteers from Brighton & Hove LGBT Switchboard.

The building is fully accessible and sign translators can be appointed
if needed.
