We seek to recruit a talented Statistician either in the field of Genetics or Epidemiology at Research Assistant/Research Associate level. There are a number of projects that would suit a researcher interested in gaining academic experience in cardiovascular/methodological research. The projects will be in the following areas of research:

•	Aortic aneurysms & dissections (TAAD) – These are understudied cardiovascular phenotypes. We will establish a research program to understand the genetic epidemiology of TAAD susceptibility and progression to inform surveillance and preventative strategies.

•	Vascular Imaging Phenotypes and cardiovascular outcomes – Using the UK BIOBANK the post will contribute to a collaborative study investigating the genetic determinants of aortic phenotypes and the association with cardiovascular endpoints.

•	Identification of causal high-dimensional intermediate phenotypes associated with a range of cardiovascular diseases using techniques such as Mendelian Randomization.

Essential skills:

•	Masters or PhD in Statistics or a relevant subject or be in the final stages of obtaining their PhD or equivalent experience
•	Experience in analysis of large complex epidemiological datasets;
•	Experience of genetic association analysis
•	Ability to work independently as well as part of an interdisciplinary team that includes principal investigators, clinicians, statisticians, project managers and administrators
•	Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
•	Strong organisation skills, ability to judge priorities and ‘can do’ attitude;

Desirable Skills:

•	Experience in Mendelian randomisation and or genome-wide association studies
•	Experience with UK Biobank datasets.
•	A track record of authoring relevant scientific publications

The Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit (CEU) is an internationally recognised interdisciplinary group currently comprising >60 staff and students. It is part of the Department of Public Health and Primary Care (DPHPC), one of Europe’s leading academic departments of population health sciences.

The post-holder will have access to data in the Unit's extensive portfolio of studies, including the Emerging Risk Factors Collaboration that comprises >2.5 million participants in total. There will also be an opportunities to establish new collaborations with academic partners throughout the UK and abroad.

The post will be jointly supervised by Dr Adam Butterworth (University Lecturer in Integrative Human Genomics at the CEU), Dr Seamus Harrison (Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust) & Dr Angela Wood (University Lecturer in Biostatistics

Appointment at research associate is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience), including those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD. Where a PhD has yet to be awarded appointment will initially be made at research assistant and amended to research associate when the PhD is awarded.

The funds for these posts are available until 30th April 2020
