Post-doctoral Researcher Opportunity at Trinity College Dublin
Project Title: Impact of NO2 Emissions on Health
Funding Agency: Environmental Protection Agency
Salary: €37,000/year
Duration: 20 months
The objectives of the project are to conduct a review of literature and previously agreed guidelines to strengthen and consolidate early evidence of the health effects of NO2, as it pertains to Ireland. Using currently available air pollution measurements, and recent research results on the influence of meteorological and source parameters (including transport vehicle and population mobility demands), identify a set of characteristics for the locations that are at most risk of experiencing high levels of NO2. The Growing up in Ireland (GUI) and the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA) databases will be used to investigate if relationships between prevalence of respiratory symptoms in vulnerable groups e.g. children, the elderly and the socio-economically deprived, and NO2 levels exist, within database constraints. Policies and strategies being implemented by other countries to bring NO2 within compliance levels will be assessed to identify a set of effective and efficient solutions to mitigate the impact of the transport sector on NO2 levels in Ireland.
Interested candidates with a PhD in a relevant field are invited to send a letter of interest, outlining previous research experience, and a CV to Prof. Margaret O’Mahony at [log in to unmask]
