Dear Tony,
I'm a software developer and I need to give you some suggestions about
the so called lock-in. It is a largerly used set of practices to keep
you linked with your service provider. To avoid this you need some
precautions:
- all the software SOURCES must be delivered to you, aside with an
installation procedure which will allow your technicians to redeploy the
web site;
- all the data are stored or can be exported in a standard and well
known format, so that you can change platform and software without
losing data and with very small effort;
- preferably, other software and library used by the project are free
software;
- it is very important that one of your employee is a technician capable
and delegate to verify these steps.
Hope it helps,
CL
