Dear all,
this came from the Institute of Physics. Suitable geophysics projects
might qualify. The statement on eligibility is:
"The Grant is open to all applicants with an association with physics and cognate disciplines, based in the UK and Ireland, but priority will be given to members of the IOP, proposals that align with the IOP’s strategic objectives for 2015-19, and applicants/projects that have an existing connection to sub-Saharan Africa."

Dear Dr Peacock,
*Virdee Grant Applications*
Thanks to a donation from Sir Tejinder Virdee, the IOP is awarding a number of small grants for projects that support the development of science and technology in Sub-Saharan Africa. We hope this will enable members of the physics community based in the UK and Ireland to undertake activities in the region.
Grants will range from £200 to £2000 or a single grant of £5000. The grants can be used for travel purposes, to purchase materials or equipment for a project or to kick-start new initiatives. More information on the requirements for applications and how to apply can be found here <http://iop.msgfocus.com/c/1h3vVbcpfx04Rqn3bBp0rkA>.
The application deadline is *28 April 2017*. Please note that if any funds are left after this date, the deadline will be extended.
We would appreciate it if you could pass this information on to any colleagues that may be interested in applying. We look forward to receiving the applications!
Best wishes
Linsey Clark
