Dear Members and Supporters of the Society for Disability Studies,
SDS’s Membership portal has now been open and accepting Memberships
and Donations for barely a week. The response has been so gratifying, almost
$10,000. When the time came to step up and give, so many of you have. You
have recognized that IT’s ON US, as over half the Memberships are coming in
with Donations as well as Dues.
If you haven’t yet joined the party, or know someone to invite to join us,
please visit the website to find all the information and forms at:
http://disstudies.org/index.php/2017-campaign/. Remember, no one is denied
Membership if you need to pay less than our published dues and volunteer
labor is also appreciated. Needed Committee tasks will be posted in the New
Year.
The 2017 Membership categories:
- Student/Low-Income $40
- Professional $150
- Sustaining $225
- Lifetime $1,500 (paid in one or two installments)
- Organizational $500
- Corporate $5,000
All Memberships come with the same benefits, including access to the SDS
electronic listservs and info about jobs, grants, awards, conference
strands, caucuses, interest groups, and international mentoring and
networking.
Those joining as Professional Members should consider becoming Sustaining
Members. If you’re affiliated with an educational, research, profit, or
nonprofit institution, please consider an Organizational Membership which
comes with one Professional and up to four Student/Low-Income
Memberships—Corporate Members get five Professional Memberships.
Everyone should consider the current wonderful trend and make an additional
tax-deductible donation. We are receiving donations of $5, $10, $20, even
with our lowest Dues category. Chose one or more of the SDS funds:
- General Fund
- Disability Studies Quarterly Fund
- Access and Accommodations Fund
- Membership Subsidy Fund
Remember that as our first plum 2017 Benefit of Membership, SDS has
collaborated with the Canadian Disability Studies Association (CDSA) to
create conference strand presentation slots ONLY for SDS Members at the CDSA
2017 annual conference in Toronto, May 31-June 2, with a January 16th
deadline for proposals. The CFP is here:
