Bielefeld University in Germany is in the process of creating an interdisciplinary Data Science research and teaching centre. As part of this major development, existing areas of expertise (including the Centre for Statistics) will be further integrated and additionally strengthened by targeted appointments of new professors. The position advertised here is one of these new posts.
The candidate will participate in research and teaching activities in the area of Data Science, working closely with the Statistics and Data Analysis group, the Chair of Econometrics and the Computational Methods group within the Department of Business Administration and Economics. We seek a candidate who works at the interface of classical statistics and machine learning, with a proven track record in current research areas in Data Science (e.g. big data, data mining, statistical learning theory, causal inference, computational statistics or predictive analytics).
It is expected that the successful candidate will make active use of the various opportunities available for engaging in interdisciplinary collaborations within Bielefeld University. The candidate will participate in activities of the Centre for Statistics and will teach undergraduate and graduate courses within the Department of Business Administration and Economics. Furthermore, the candidate will be actively involved in the new Master's degree in Data Science, which is currently being developed. This degree will be offered jointly by the Centre for Statistics and the Department of Technology at Bielefeld University.
