About Us
Established in 1989, the MRC/UVRI Uganda Research Unit is an internationally recognized interdisciplinary centre of excellence for research on HIV infection and priority diseases. It provides critical knowledge on the evolving HIV epidemic and on the evaluation of innovative health care options, treatment and prevention, and has shaped health policy and practice not only in Uganda but in Africa and worldwide.
About the Role
Contributing to the scientific direction of the Unit and providing effective statistical support during development of funding proposals and scientific publications. You will lead statistical aspects of the design, coordination and analysis of new and on-going research studies, including clinical trials and related research. You will initiate and lead research in areas of interest and expertise. Importantly, this role will build statistical expertise for Uganda and the region through mentorship and supervision of postgraduate and post-doctoral trainees, and through formal training.
About You
You will need:
. A PhD in Medical Statistics (or closely related subject), or extensive experience as a lead Statistician on clinical or epidemiological studies
. A proven track record of shaping the design and analysis of on-going projects and their day-to-day running
. A strong research profile demonstrated through substantial peer-reviewed publications in health-related research, and experience of writing grant proposals and/or study/trial protocols
. Excellent people and project management skills, with a proven ability to successfully manage a team, including developing junior colleagues
