Research Associate (78442-126)
Warwick Clinical Trials Unit, Warwick Medical School, University of Warwick, Coventry
Salary: £25,298 - £28,453 per annum
Fixed term contract for 2 years
Warwick Clinical Trials Unit is seeking to recruit a graduate in mathematics, statistics or another relevant quantitative subject to undertake a research methods training fellowship, funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), with the aim of starting a career in health research. The Fellowship provides 2 years of dedicated time for the Fellow to undertake structured methodology training and gain research experience in a high-quality environment, and includes funding for research/training costs and tuition fees. During the two-year fellowship, it is expected that the Fellow will undertake a full-time MSc in Medical Statistics at the University of Leicester (entry October 2017).
Prior to, and following the MSc course, the Fellow will also gain training and experience in the design, delivery and analysis of clinical trials and, in particular, will undertake a research project investigating methods of inference for use in clinical trials of populations at high-risk of death (studies of the very elderly, for example, or emergency medicine). In such studies, one might be interested in investigating how a treatment affects a particular measure over time but deaths mean that the series of measures is truncated for some participants. The Fellow will gain experience of using standard and new methods for analysing longitudinal measures with informative drop out and will, after presenting and discussing their critique with their supervisor(s), have the opportunity to make a major contribution to the development of specific guidance and/or new methodology in this area.
You will have a first degree (Class I or II) or equivalent in a subject containing a substantial coverage of statistical theory, methods and practice. You will be IT literate, self-motivated with excellent communication skills and have the ability to work well individually as well as in a team.
