Dear colleague:
Our group has two rather unusual PhD positions on offer. Please be so kind to pass this on to potential suitable candidates. My apologies if you get this more than once. Best wishes, Klaas
PhD position #1 starting October 2017: Imaging and controlling nucleation
A 3.5-year PhD position is offered in an exciting and challenging research area on the border between physics, chemistry, and engineering in the Ultrafast/slow Chemical Physics (UCP) group (http://wijnne.com/) at the University of Glasgow. You will be part of an energetic group of chemical physicists and physical chemists who are studying molecular matter using femtosecond lasers, terahertz spectroscopy, and various forms of microscopy. The PhD position on offer involves the imaging of and control over nucleation of crystals and other phases using a high-power sub-picosecond laser. The position is available to UK and EU residents only and will be starting October 2017. For more information see http://tinyurl.com/zk6nbru or contact Klaas Wynne at [log in to unmask]
PhD position #2 starting October 2017: Portable Mid-Infrared Tool for Analysis of Mosquito Vectors of Malaria
A collaboration between Engineering, Chemistry, and research institutes in the College of Life Sciences at the University of Glasgow is offering a prestigious Lord Kelvin Adam Smith (LKAS) PhD studentship. You will develop a novel QCL-based IR-spectroscopic tool to monitor disease vectors (initially mosquitoes) in order to help the fight of malaria and other vector-borne diseases such as Zika, Dengue, and West Nile virus. For more information see http://tinyurl.com/gpc8vrg or contact David Childs at [log in to unmask] Applicants may submit applications up until the application deadline of 12 noon, Friday 13 January 2017.
