The Center for Aerosol Impacts on Climate and the Environment (CAICE) in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, San Diego is currently looking for a highly motivated and talented individual for a Postdoctoral Fellow position. The fellow will conduct research under the supervision of Profs. Wei Xiong and Robert Continetti. The research focus for this position is highly interdisciplinary. The fellow will develop second harmonic based spectroscopic techniques to study the surface properties and morphology of isolated nanoparticles in the gas phase under the impact of radiation. Experimental techniques including electrodynamic balances will be used to prepare isolated gas-phase aerosols for investigation. Individuals with experience in areas including ultrafast spectroscopy, vacuum technology, molecular beams and radiofrequency ion traps are strongly encouraged to apply. The fellow will also have the opportunity to practice leadership, collaboration and communication skills by mentoring graduate and undergraduate researchers as well as establishing collaborations with other CAICE scientists.
This position is currently available, with a flexible start-date, but an early start is preferred. The initial appointment will be on a one-year basis, with the opportunity for renewal contingent on funding and performance. A Ph.D in chemistry, physics, environmental science or related engineering fields is required. To apply, please email as a pdf your C.V., a letter of interest, and the names of three references to Prof. Wei Xiong ([log in to unmask]), and Prof. Robert Continetti ([log in to unmask]). Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
