As you may already know we run presenter network meetings on a regular basis for presenters to get together and share best practice. I have added in a little information about the group at the end of my post in case you have never heard of it.
We have two new network meetings coming up soon, both London based with details below. They are pretty different events and I know they won’t both appeal to everyone but I have had a lot of enquiries recently so think there is an appetite for both within the network.
1. Wednesday 30th November, 3pm – 5pm – Presenting 101
If you are new to the world of presenting and looking to build experience and pick up some tips to get your started this should be really handy. It will follow a similar format to normal in that there will be facilitated and discussion-based sessions but it really will be aimed at those starting out in the wonderful world of presenting. We will be hosting this at the ROG but will be inviting some super experienced presenters from other organisations to come along and share their experience too.
2. January – date TBC.
I am going to keep this one bathed in mystery for the time being as we are still working out the details. All I will say is that it will be themed around working with family audiences and how to modify your approach to suit an audience where there is a huge range in ability, knowledge and attention span. It will follow the usual format for a presenter network meeting; a facilitated session then a discussion based around that session’s topic. It looks like it will be a real cracker so if you are interested please do register your interest and save yourself a place.

The Presenter Network
Who is it for?
The presenter network is solely for those who are actively involved in presenting any sort of educational session in museums as well as science and discovery centres. This is not a general education group, we created it so presenters can get together and share best practice as well as watch others in action to develop their presenting style.
How often do they run?
We meet once every two months (ish) always between 3pm and 5pm.
Where do you meet?
Each meeting is somewhere different (mainly London based at the moment though) so we can see how other organisations do things.
What is the structure of a session?
The order of the sessions is always the same; 1 hour taking part in a facilitated education session followed by a 1 hour discussion (made up of a short welcome by me and the discussion facilitated by the hosting group).
There are two things that we ask all members to try and do to help keep the network alive:
Share – we want this group to grow, the more brains we have to pick at the better so please do forward the information to anyone that is actively involved in presenting educational sessions within a museum, science or discovery centre setting.
Host a meeting – we are happy to host every session at the Royal Observatory Greenwich but I think you may all get fed up of that so moving around to see different centres and styles would be the preferred option. If you would like to host a session please give me a shout – it is really easy I promise!
