Applications are invited for a 36 month early stage postgraduate
research position in the Institute for Material and Processes within
the School of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh.
For applicants with MSc or MEng Degree the post will lead to a PhD
degree in Chemical Engineering; however applicants with a PhD degree
in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Physical Chemistry or a
related area are also encouraged to apply.
Background: This position is a part of a larger scale research
consortium with overall objective to address the cost, energy and
process constraints which make the CO2 capture in pre and
post-combustion processes currently not viable in real industrial
applications. This will be achieved through the development of
innovative materials, membranes and processes for CO2 capture.
This specific project will use molecular simulations to provide a
better understanding of the facilitated transport mechanisms in
polymer membranes. The information obtained at the molecular level
will then be fed into the process modelling and optimization with a
view to guide the development of novel membranes and materials. The
project is expected to interact closely with the other researchers in
the consortium, who will develop and test the new membranes in
permeation experiments.
