Themes:
The figures are not new…….. in 2014 the World Urbanization Prospects published by the United Nations identified that we had already crossed the tipping point at which the majority of the peoples of the world live in cities. By 2050 it is expected that 66 per cent of the world’s population. Already in many parts of the world, urban living is the dominate mode of existence. In South America, 76 percent of people are urbanized. In the United States, the world’s most resource consuming nation, over 80 percent of the population is urban. In places like Singapore and Hong Kong the figures suggest total urban saturation, with 100 percent of people living urbanized areas.
In this context the conference looks at three interrelated issues, starting with the biggest:
Cities: Speakers include urban designers and regional planners. Each will deal with their own work, cases studies, strategy proposals, current and emerging issues in theory and practice. They will create the framework for other disciplines dealing with the associated issues of:
Communities: Speakers include community activists, participatory design practices, sociologists studying community and local policy makers.
Homes: Speakers include housing professionals, architects developing affordable housing models, and regional policy makers on housing provision.

Publications:
There will be a conference proceedings publication with its own ISSN. Delegates will also be considered for inclusion in two books series with UCL Press and Libri Publishing respectively.
Keynotes:
As part of a series of event the keynotes at this event will be drawn from various disciplines. Previous speakers include: Speakers this series include: Herman Hertzberger, RIBA Gold Medalist, 2012; Assemble, Turner Prize Winners, 2015; Stephen Hodder, CBE, President, RIBA, 2013-15 and others.

It is coordinated by the UK non-profit research organisation AMPS as part of its engagement with the UN Habitat University Initiative.
